Not the best of days…

Jubilee Park

Ann was walking ‘Elle’, our 13 year-old Border Terrier, in our local park, on Wednesday 29/03/17, just 2 days before we were due to fly to Naples for our week’s break in Sorrento when…

A brown Staffordshire Bull Terrier, with a red harness, raced from the other side of the park, with a young girl chasing behind it shouting wildly. The Bull Terrier, then pinned Elle to the ground, and sunk its teeth into her neck, shaking her violently. Ann was hysterical !!! the girl was shouting get off to the Bull, and it was only when a passing car saw what was happening and stopped to run into the park, to kick and punch the dog, until it let go,

The girl and Bull Terrier, then walked away, without an apology or exchange of details, to join a lad who was watching but doing absolutely nothing to help (so it must have been his dog as well)… the young couple then left the park…

The couple in the car, then ran Elle and Ann home. Ann was so upset the rest of the evening. and Elle was bleeding profusely at the neck… but it was at a time that no vet could be contacted.

Cath, shaved some of her hair off, to see the worst of the wounds, cleaned the wounds with warm water and applied pressure bandages, held on with Elle’s collar, to stop the bleeding as per a web description she had brought up on her phone…

We took Elle to our Vet, first thing next morning, where the full extent of the wounds were discovered. Elle was immediately sent to the Vet’s surgical establishment some miles away, where they gave her a general anaesthetic, and stitched her wounds. The bill as you can imagine ran into £100’s…

We contacted the police, and got an incident number from them, but as they said… they can do nothing until we find out the owners details… So, no matter how long it takes, I will find them, follow them to obtain their address, take photos if possible and be reporting it further to the police, who assured us they will visit, present our Vet’s Bill, and proceed under the ‘Dangerous Dogs Act‘…. so watch this space !!!

Update… Elle went to the Vet’s this morning, Monday 10/04/17, to have her stitches removed. Everything is looking good and the wounds have healed well. Elle seems fine in herself, but seems a little nervous around other dogs if they get too close… then she runs back to us for protection lol.

  1. Mal, why don’t you post details on Facebook group “Huyton news past and present” to spread the word and have
people look out for this dog and couple. Good luck – it was an horrendous incident.

    1. Thanks Joan for your thoughts… I don’t want them to get wind that I’m looking for them at the moment… so I am hoping they will be more open in coming to the park, that way I can follow them home…
