Birkenhead Park

My image of the day…

Ann and I had visited Birkenhead Park, over on the Wirral, some weeks earlier, to progress a research project, for one of the owners of ‘Dovecot House’ a country estate, built in the early 1800’s in an area, which I was brought up in… and of which I run a Fb members site with over 3000 members, relating their own memories of growing up in Dovecot.

This visit today was simply a personal follow on from that initial visit, to walk around and enjoy this bright sunny spring day, with a couple of cameras to hand… on a pleasant day out.

We caught a local bus from our house, into the city (Liverpool), on our free over 60’s public transport passes… one of the best things the City, has ever given us… hopping off at Lime Street Station, to go for a quick Costa Coffee, to start the day…

Lime Street Station… and a short visit to Costa Coffee

We then went down the escalators, to the Wirral Line, to catch our connection, which runs under the River Mersey, and onto the the Wirral…

We alighted the train at Birkenhead Park… and made the short walk to the Park itself. This Park in its day, was surrounded by Victorian Mansion Houses, and it was definitely a suburb, in which the wealthier merchants of the city, and waterside lived and a short journey to their businesses…

After strolling around the Park, and taking in the sights and sounds, we made our way to the parks ‘Vistor’ centre, to check out the art-work displays, before visiting the cafe, to get a light lunch of panini’s and a pot of tea… before retracing our journey, on the return trip home… what a pleasant day out… must do it again…
