Today, I met up with one of Liverpool’s top Surreal Photographic Artists… Phil McKay. Phil is currently exhibiting in a New York gallery, and many of his images are bought privately and corporately to hang on the walls of plush executive offices.

Over coffee at Liverpool ONE, Phil explained what inspires him to produce his unique style of photographic art, and his aspirations for his future work. His motivation and drive is to produce his artwork firstly, monochromatic images secondly, and he likes to relax, taking Infrared images for his own personal pleasure. Phil’s art is not confined, by the structured learning which was prevalent and adhered to when I was progressing my own skills ‘back in the day’ and because of this, Phil’s imagination can run wild, so to speak… this of course gives him a free reign over his imagination, resulting in his amazing digital imagery.

Phil told me he had recently delivered, a presentation to Southport Photographic Society, which was very well recieved by their membership, and if truth is known, I definitely think my own Society (SLPS) should also book Phil on the sight of his own images alone.

Phil was saying how he has recently acquired a new dedicated Infrared camera (Nikon) with a 720nm conversion, and cant wait to get in the ‘field’ to try it out. If his recent work is anything to go by, we should be seeing him incorporating I.R. images into his own catalog, and I personally am looking forward to seeing Phil’s undoubted progression into this aspect of Photography.

You can check out a selection of Phil’s work by searching for him on Facebook, but I’m sure Phil will allow me to include a few of my Favorites on this page, as an exemplar…
