Sankey Valley

Great photo opportunities

Went down to the Sankey Valley last week…. Although when I worked at Warrington Collegiate as a Lecturer, I would on occasion… when I had a spare couple of hours, go to the upper reaches of the Sankey Valley Country Park… this was on the lower Section of the Park, as the canal makes its way to the River Mersey. You park in the pub car-park (post code WA5 2UJ)… walk over the railway crossing and straight onto the canal…

A walk along the canal, either way will give you some great shots, crossing the railway and canal, and turning right, will take you past the back of the ‘Ferry Tavern‘ pub, who do a ‘great’ fish & chips of a weekend, and the pub is always packed on warm days especially… the food is THAT good…

Walking on… you find yourself at the old lock gates onto the Mersey, there are great opportunities with unusual sights, for you to photograph, and walking further up the old tow-path, you can walk as far as Spike Island, but on this occasion, Ann & I (with Elle) walked up as far as the bridge over to Fiddlers Ferry Power Station, to see the imposing Cooling Towers…

We made our way back to the Ferry Tavern, for a nice rest and a pint… of the local brew, before setting off for home, and a great day it was…. hope you can get down there some time….
