Where to take the kids…

The Venice Lagoon

Well there was only one real choice… Venice !!! This year, we decided to take Catherine and her ‘boyfriend’ Glyn, to Venice. It was Catherine’s second time in Venice, as we took her on a whistle stop 15 day coach holiday, some 13 years ago, to give her a taste of Europe in general, and Italy in particular. Glyn, had never been to Italy, so really it was new to them both…

We had booked the Best Western at Sant’Elena, which we have stayed in before… it is in a more secluded part of Venice, down by the parkland’s of the Island. as we had stayed there before, and because we are members of the Best Western Hotel group, a bottle of bubbly with nibbles was waiting for us in our room… a nice start to a great week. Rather than catch the usual routes into the Cityfrom Marco Polo Airport, we had booked a water taxi, as a surprise for them to start the week on a high… straight to the hotel.

The weather, held out all week, with full sun and temperatures in the 70-80 degrees… it only rained 1 day, and it was a welcome cooling off for Ann & I. It was good to give Cath & Glyn, our years of Venice experience, in getting around, and knowing the best places to visit or eat, but letting them do their ‘own’ thing whenever they wanted… everything seemed to drop into place the whole week. below are some of the places we visited…

St. Marks

Torcello Island and Cathedral

The Island of Mazorbo

A highlight for Cath & Glyn… The Venice, Hard Rock Cafe

A table for 2 (Guidecca)

Our favourite Seafood Restaurant (Cafe Da’Alvice)

A really great week, with a load of fantastic memories !!!

  1. HI MAL,

JUST COME ACROSS YOUR REMARKABLE PHOTOS OF VENICE. BRINGING BACK HAPPY MEMORIES OF HOLIDAYS THERE. ONE DISADVANTAGE OF EMIGRATING TO AUSTRALIA, IS NOT HAVING WONDERFUL EUROPE ON YOUR DOORSTEP, BRILLIANT PHOTOS. DID YOU GET TO THE GLASSWORKS AT MURANO? I STILL HAVE SOME LOVELY PIECES FROM THERE. GREAT MEMORIES AND VERY INTERESTING, THANKS.
