Going to the Zoo?

On Saturday, Myself, Ann & Cath, went to Chester Zoo. We used to take Cath there on a regular basis in the 1990’s, when she was younger, and we were long time members of the zoological society.

Cath wanted to visit, before she went off on her 6 month stint as a team leader for the Volunteer Scheme ICS. Although Cath went on the scheme for 3 months, some years ago as a member of a team to India, teaching hygiene to youngsters in local schools, she has now been recruited for the ICS as a Team Leader, and is going to Africa for 6 months (2x 3 month schemes for first time members).

Anyway, I have just bought a new carry-around pocket camera, and I wanted to get out, and try its features… Well impressed

With the cameras 30x optical zoom, on a 20MP/1.23 sensor, even on Ai+ setting it will take the camera to 60x giving it a 10MP resolution… the above bear, was taken at over 50 metres away, with a minimal Pp crop, and still gave great resolution and detail for the image. I would be quite happy to print this camera to an A3 size print.

The zoo, has recently opened, a new exhibit, called ‘Islands’ and although you can walk around the area, it is nice to hop on one of the boats, that follow an underwater pulley system, which takes you past the ‘islands’ via the waterways, to see the animals from a different perspective…

After walking around the zoo, we managed to catch site of almost all the animal enclosures, and even managed a go on the zoo’s monorail… this gave me the opportunity to try out the cameras, ‘selfie’ mode and flip up the composition screen….

A rare photo of me….. including Ann & Cath

And so… after a full day from the zoo’s opening at 10:00.am. until its closing at 4:30,pm. we set off, to have a meal at TGI’s on the way home… A great meal… but gawd !!! should have taken out a loan… lol
