Birthday Meal

After a great day in Pompeii… as part of my birthday day out… we came back to our hotel, via the hotel’s shuttle bus… and after a few beers in the bar… went to our room for a little kip (well we are getting on… lol).

I had ordered a a bottle of my favourite Italian wine, to be breathed and ready, for our evening meal… and as we were lead to our table… on the raised part of the restaurant floor overlooking the bay of Naples, and Mount Vesuvius… the bottle was waiting at our table…

After our starters from the salad bar, and then the pasta starter, served to our table… we then had the main meal… Ann and I always remark how good the service is in the hotel restaurant, with its stunning views, and the the choice of different fixed menu meals each night is superb… For tonight’s meal… Ann chose the lamb, and I, the chicken…

However… As a surprise… the waiters, produced a birthday cake for me at the end of our meal… and sung ‘Happy Birthday’… of course I share the cake with those around our table… it was really good.

After our meal, we sat out on the restaurant balcony, overlooking the town… and enjoyed our wine… on the warm evening… it was really pleasant and a lovely end to what was a ‘perfect’ day !… After our wine, we went up to the bar floor, to have our usual after dinner, limoncello hit… usually people have limoncello as a liqueur in a small glass, however… as we have been having them in Italy for years…. ours come in a big glass over ice… as a double shot…

  1. Glad you had such a good birthday Mal! My parents went to the same places you visited on this trip
and I remember them so enthusiastic about their holiday in the early 70s

    1. Joan… So glad you took time to comment… My passion with Italy, also began in the late 70’s… early 80’s… if my numbers ever came up… BIG dreams…lol

      1. Mal, my gt gt grandfather sailed to Liverpool in 1871 from Italy and stayed. He was born in Venice and so my family
has a great interest in Italy. I have been to Venice in my youth but I’d like to go back and search the Civil Registrations
to see if I can find out anything about Francesco Savaria Caligari !
