An IR Photography Day…

We had breakfast today, and started out early… the weather was just how I like it to be when I’m doing Infrared work… as I like a good cloud structure, to dramatise the image, and although it started out perfect, the clouds did roll in more than I wanted or expected…

I had scoped out some vistas, the previous day in order to visit these sites at appropriate times to get the best out of the available shadow cast, to enhance the images I wanted… so starting off at the head of Bassenthwaite lake, we parked up, and made our way down to Ouse Bridge, as I wanted an early morning shot as this is when its illuminated…

After spending some time here, we then made our way back up to the car, and headed for a drive over to one of my favourite places in the whole of the English Lake District… Crummock Water and Buttermere. The drive over was perfect with some breaks in the cloud cover, giving some great shadow over the fells… we arrived at a favoured spot of ours on the South-east shore of Crummock Water, a lonely spot, I set up for a good shoot…

We started to lose the light after a couple of hours, and the gaps in the clouds closed up, so we decided to move on, and miss out Buttermere (lake) … so we made our way through Buttermere Village, and onto the long scenic drive over the pass back to Braithwaite… after we arrived in Braithwaite, we called at the Royal Oak, where I had a pint of Cumberland (real ale) and where I knew they sold packets of ‘pork scratchings’ to die for…lol

As the clouds were now heavy… we made our way back to our hotel… for a nap…lol… Ironically and much to our surprise, when we awoke, the clouds had rolled away… and the day was setting itself up for a great golden ‘sunset’ evening… so rather than have our evening meal at the hotel… we made our way to Keswick, where we bought fish & chips, to eat on the Derwent Water lakeside, so that I could set of for the last shot of the day… a shot I have wanted for ages… so tonight was looking good for the shot….
