No History Here…

St. John The Evangelist /Knotty Ash

Every year, here in Liverpool, old historic buildings and places, for one or two weekends in September, throw open their doors, and invite the public into them, for a glimpse into things which are not often seen.

The Liverpool Heritage Site… lists the opening days, and times, which these events are on, so the more experienced history buffs amongst us, can timetable the events, and flit around as many as possible… St. John the Evangelist, was one such a venue… It was advertised on the website that it would be open on 2 successive weekends 7th-9th & 14th-16th September, however, when we arrived on the 7th… although there were 8-10 people waiting… no one had told the church it was open on that date, and the church never checked the heritage website… so everyone had a wasted trip, some coming from further afield… Anyway, at least Ann & I, could shuffle our timetables and come the following week on Friday 14th… at the advertised time of 13:00.

The problem was… the information on the website was wrong, once more… and the actual opening time of 13:30 was not altered until mid-week… so once again we found ourselves waiting outside the church… again… most people simply left… Ann and I had a ‘booked‘ another ‘Heritage’ event to attend, and couldn’t wait around… so once again… a wasted journey… We cant see ourselves rushing back to St. John’s again next year, even though it has some superb history to offer, it just looks like no one wants to share it !!!
