Back again…

Allerton Hall
Allerton Hall – Liverpool

Ann & I were that impressed, with our short visit to Allerton Hall, after doing some research in Allerton Cemetery, that we made a point of going back today… for our lunch… There were some Funeral functions in the rooms, because of its close proximity to the Cemetery, but the hall is that large, it was hardly noticeable… so on this warm day, we once again sat out at the front of the Hall, and enjoyed a pint for me, and J2O for Ann… I brought the menu’s out along with the drinks, and we chose our meals… I thought it was good value… after our meal we went over to the front entrance of the old Clarke Gardens Menagerie/Zoo, now disused and overgrown.

After a great lunch, we got to talking to one of the staff members, and I asked him who owned the Hall now? We were told the the Hall was now owned by Farmhouseinns, the same company which owns, the ‘Jolly Miller’ (Queens Drive) and the ‘Pump House (Albert Dock)… The first floor of the Hall, is taken over by apartments for the Managers, whilst the top floor is used for storage.

After quizzing the manager, we set off for a short walk, as we wanted to see, a building in Clarke Gardens, from another era long gone…lol. this was an old WW2 ‘Pill Box’ situated on the corners of Woolton Road/Springwood Ave, but in Clarke Gardens itself… Obviously the Hall was thought to be of some strategic importance…lol

Before we got back to the car… we had noticed that one of the Hall’s houses was for sale… so being inquisitive… we walked along to see it…

It was obviously empty, and peering through the windows we could see that the house was just a shell… no plaster on the internal walls etc. Although it is being advertised as a 3 bed, 2 living, 1 bathroom house… a lot of work will be needed to set it right… and even in this state, it is being offered at a cool £320,000…

However, this price includes, planning permission and architect plans, to demolish the house, and build (at your own expense) a 6 bed roomed detached executive property in its place… below is the artist impression of the finished property, if built to the included plans…

      1. WOW WHAT A GREAT DAY OUT. ITS A STARK REMINDER OF HOW THINGS HAVE CHANGED OVER THE YEARS, ESPECIALLY PROPERTY PRICES!

THANKS FOR THE GREAT PHOTOS, THEY BROUGHT BACK HAPPY MEMORIES. GLAD YOU BOTH ENJOYED THE DAY.

  2. I have just set up a ‘CLOSED’ Facebook group, called ‘Memories of Dovecot’… Anyone can find the group, but only members can see the posts and pictures… This could be the very place to share our stories and pics, meet up with long lost mates/friends… or simply sit and watch the action… We can take a modern photo… and recall our memories of it in days gone by… Hope to see you all there…
